We at CHS pride ourselves on being able to provide Breast cancer screening via breast exams, mammogram's and education to our women in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. We have added another service which previously was not available in Grenada or Carriacou. We now have the capability of providing needle localization breast biopsies. In simpler terms, if an abnormality is noted on mammogram and the mass is not palpable for the surgeon to biopsy the area; then a needle indicating the abnormal area would be placed under mammographic guidance to allow for the biopsy to be done. Prior to now, the capability to place a needle did not exist in Grenada and patients would need to travel to Trinidad for the service. Here at CHS, we are now able to do needle localizations and biopsies of abnormal sites noted on mammogram's that are not palpable. Our first successful case was performed with results indicating an early cancer which is treatable.

With the development of various services at CHS, this allows us in Carriacou to be able to better handle patients who present to CHS and manage them here in Carriacou with out their having to travel to Grenada or abroad. In addition, we are in the initial planning stage of developing a Blood Bank on site at CHS to accommodate our patients who may need emergent blood transfusions. It is in line with our mission of providing quality, compassionate healthcare services to the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique that embrace our values of quality, human dignity and community.

Please note that CHS offers on-going medical services which include adult, pediatric and ob/gyn services, prenatal care and delivery, laboratory services, radiology services and surgical services. We are now offering Executive Medical Services which is a day at CHS of physical exams, preventive services, radiological tests, blood tests and a healthy lunch as a bundled service.

Another First at CHS

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 saw another first for Carriacou Health Services and Carriacou when CHS provided the prenatal care and delivered via C/section twins (Twin A Baby Girl and Twin B Baby Boy). The patient started her prenatal care with us after we diagnosed via sonogram that she was carrying twins. She did well and due to medical reasons required delivery via C/section. Mother and infants are doing well. They are in-house at CHS receiving their post-op care. A pediatrician along with a full operating room team was present at the time of delivery which allowed for a safe and smooth delivery.

CHS was founded in 2003; we broke ground October 2003 and despite two hurricanes opened on July 29th, 2005 and saw our first patients August 5th, 2005. As stated at the opening, we are developing and bringing in the services gradually since "Rome was not built in a Day" but we are proud of the fact that two years from opening we have and are providing a wide variety of services provided by board-certified physicians and health professionals

First Twin delivery at chs

Dr. Susan Thomas returns to the center on 8th, 9th & 15th of December. Dr Thomas offers treatment in adult care including diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol management, hypertension management, urologic disorders, gynecologic disorders, neurologic Disorders, orthopedic injuries, arthritis, and fatigue. In pediatric care Dr Thomas offers developmental assessment, growth tracking, immunization tra...cking, orthopedic injuries, skin lesions, wounds, infectious diseases and full physical exams. She will be available to perform procedures including removal of benign skin lesions, moles, skin tags, foreign bodies and cysts. Of course she will provide wound care and medical debridement, freeze warts perform PAP smear and colposcopy (examine cervix with scope and biopsy). PLEASE CALL TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS.
